-Starting with 10 plots (8’x4’ each)
- 8 of them will be assigned to specific volunteers, 2 will be open community plots (there was a suggestion to have maybe perennials or vines in those plots, for example).
-Brainstormed for a name for the garden, Ben Miller had a great suggestion to name it Hog Eye Community Garden
-We exchanged different seeds we had, and started planting them in seed starter pods. (thanks Andy!)
-Discussed whether we would use non-organic pesticides, group unanimously agreed to *not* use non-organic pesticides.
-Discussed having garden rules & would like to take a more relaxed approach to this in the beginning. We can review examples of community garden rules online and reconvene at a later meeting to establish basic rule set for ours. Talked about building a covered sign to post rules/info/sign-up sheets/poems :)
-Heidi Sloan (farming/agriculture director of Community First) gave us information on composting and planting months for specific crops, as well as info about organic pest control.
-Group talked about how often we want to meet- thinking once a month, and to also have a group online for easy/visible communication.
